Rev. Garbett is 64 years old. He and his wife Eileen have been married for 43 years and live in Avery County. They have two children (their 37-year-old son Jared and their 13-year-old adopted daughter Sahara). Prior to becoming the Associational Mission Strategist (Director of Missions) for Avery Association, he served as a pastor for 25 years, with 17 of those years being at New Hope Baptist Church in Beulaville, North Carolina. He also served as a Chaplain with the North American Mission Board from 1993-2015
